And now, thanks to the ever-watchful eyes of a COSMOPOLIS fansite, it appears that Cronenberg’s beautiful DANGEROUS METHOD muse Keira Knightley has stepped in for Marion Cotillard. The fansite discovered that the Alfama Films production company website had updated their casting information and was now listing Knightley alongside Pattinson with nary a sight of Cotillard. Considering that there’s only one female role in the project, it was assumed that Knightley had taken over the role. Since then, Knightley’s name has been removed from the Alfama Films website, though Cotillard’s remained absent as well. Soon after, The Playlist was able to get confirmation that Cotillard was indeed no longer part of the project due to a scheduling conflict (or more accurately, she’s due to give birth).
All that still doesn’t answer whether or not Knightley has officially been cast in Cronenberg’s film, though it wouldn’t be surprising if it was so. More on this as it comes. Here’s a little bit about the film (based on Don DeLillo’s book):
“A financial wunderkind, Packer (Pattinson) risks his entire fortune to bet against the yen on a tumultuous day. His deed puts him in the crosshairs for assassination in a drama that is a study of capitalism in a slightly futuristic metropolis. Most of the scenes in the book take place in the limousine that transports Packer from place to place.”
