Haunting Kira has it all?

What do you guys look for in a horror movie? A good plot? Some gruesome gore? Spot on acting? Or maybe something that just jumps up and punches you in the face? Well I’m here today to tell you about an upcoming horror flick that seems to have some major potential to score in most of those categories!

The movie is called HAUNTING KIRA. Genre makeup FX pro Teresa Fahs of Gorify.com is taking matters into her own hands with HAUNTING KIRA. The film is a script Fahs wrote and is looking to direct. Right now she’s just getting the word out and looking for anyone willing to contribute in the funds department. She’s planning on shooting this November with a 2010 Mother’s Day release.

Now what is HAUNTING KIRA? Well according to Fahs KIRA is looking to break the mold and stray far away from all the burdens of today’s horror. Stuff like ‘remakes, sequels, PG-13 ratings, as well as stale and predictable kills and plot twists.’ Fahs promises KIRA is nothing like that stuff. She describes KIRA as ‘a ghost story, a zombie film, a gorefest, and a strange trip’ and describes it as ‘BEING JOHN MALKOVICH meets THE SHINING meets NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD.’

Whoa… really? Hopefully Fahs isn’t getting ahead of herself and KIRA is the real deal because that sounds awesome! I’ll let Fahs herself tell you a bit about it:

“Over the years, I have become proficient at visually translating a script into reality. What I haven’t had a chance to do, is really push the special effects envelope from the writing and directing perspective. I’ve had all these amazing gore bits, scares, and kills floating around in my head for years. I also had an original zombie concept that goes beyond the typical shooting gallery, and I needed to bring it to the screen. Then one day it all just gelled together. Writing the script was really just the process of yanking it out of my brain.”

Now what exactly is HAUNTING KIRA? Here’s how Fahs explains it: “It’s got paranormal activity, re-animated and decaying corpses, painfully realistic gore, frenzied and meaningful kills, and an ending that will hopefully make audiences want to see it all again, and again, and again. ‘Haunting Kira’ also explores issues of death and immortality, the impact of physical pain on behavior, commentary on medical professionals, how women’s self-image is attached to her appearance, the effects of aging on personality, and more. It’s not a preachy story though. It’s more like a journey into your worst fears with no way out.”

You can go ahead and sign me up right now! Let’s hope Fahs finds some big financial backers and this one turns out as awesome as it sounds. So… how would you like to help HAUNTING KIRA get made?! You can head over to Fundable.com and make a donation of $50 – $1,000. In response you’ll receive screen and IMDB credits, a DVD copy of HAUNTING KIRA, and progressive perks that range depending on how much you donate. If you’re interested you can head right over HERE! Remember… every little bit helps!

Before I finish off here’s a bit more on what Fahs had to say about the project: “Making this film is the natural evolution of my career, and it’s sorely overdue. The cure for the staleness in horror is diversity. Originality in new horror won’t come from killing people new ways, it will come from dynamic characters and great plots. Women have a unique perspective in horror, and I happen to know there are a ton of hungry hardcore female fans. No one knows pain better than a woman. No one knows blood better than a woman.”

If you want to read up even more on the project you can head to it’s MYSPACE, FACEBOOK, Gorify.com’s page for it, or Gorify’s TWITTER! Keep it here as we await more updates on HAUNTING KIRA!
