If I could say one thing to producer Andrew Trapani, the guy who brought us THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT, is that he shouldn’t produce any more haunted house movies, because… well, HAUNTING IN CT sucked ass. But if I’m to say this, I better be quick about it, as it looks like he has his eye on another true-life haunted house movie!
According to The Mercury News, Trapani is eyeing a pic of the Winchester Mystery House, an iconnic tourist attraction located in San Jose, California. Right now it’s open to tours by the public, but they say the house is crazily put together because the original Winchester woman thought the place was haunted–and making a wacky house would appease the spirits.
Specifically, the background of the Winchester Mystery House goes like this: Hundreds of thousands of people flock to the 160-room mansion, one of the most popular haunted houses in America, each year. Originally built by eccentric rifle heiress Sarah L. Winchester in the late 1800s, the house is also considered a center of spectral activity by many. Over the years apparitions have been reported by staff and visitors alike. The seance room, where Winchester nightly tried to commune with the afterlife, is among the hot spots.
Trapani wants to take the Mystery House and make it into a full fledged movie. Here’s his take on the project: It’s the great American haunted house,” Trapani says. It’s also a great mystery. What motivated her to do what she did? That’s what we want to explore with this movie. The reports of paranormal activity are so numerous that it’s certainly worth investigating… [The plot will be] a contemporary tale about the house with flashes into the past.
This is just a pipe-dream for Trapani at the moment, as no one is attached, there’s no writer, and I don’t even think they have permission from the Winchester Mystery House to do so. But it’s only a matter of time before this thing gets up and running.
