Have you been bad? New trailer for Ridley Scott’s The Counselor starring Michael Fassbender and Brad Pitt

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

The full trailer for director Ridley Scott‘s THE COUNSELOR has arrived and it’s every bit as cryptic and tantalizing as the screenplay it’s based on. Written by author Cormac McCarthy (his first original script), the film stars Michael Fassbender as a lawyer who “gets in over his head when he gets involved in drug trafficking.” Joining Fassbender are Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Rosie Perez, John Leguizamo, Goran Visnjic, and Breaking Bad’s Dean Norris. Fans of McCarthy’s work will no doubt note his similar motifs, as well as Scott’s signature sleek, vibrant style.

Have you been bad?:

Having read the script for this, my theory is that people will either love or hate this film, every bit as much as they did McCarthy’s NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, which was directed by the Coen Brothers. THE COUNSELOR has some very rough scenes (check out a few teaser clips here) and likely won’t have folks walking out of the theater with a smile on their faces, which isn’t to say it won’t entertain, but it certainly won’t be in the traditional sense. That said, I’m very excited to see this as a fan of everyone involved. Some may see Diaz as the weak link, but based on the role that’s written, she’s got a true opportunity to show a very different side of her onscreen persona’s, which could work out very favorably. If you’re looking for something non-traditional this fall, I think THE COUNSELOR will be the sure bet.

THE COUNSELOR opens on October 25, 2013.
