HBO and George R.R. Martin in talks for a Game of Thrones prequel series

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

I've thought about it, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't last long in George R.R. Martin's GAME OF THRONES universe. I'm not brave or strong enough to make it as a warrior, nor am I clever or cunning enough to make as a schemer, and I'm certainly too fat and lazy to make it as a common peasant.

But, honestly, that ability to be able to transport yourself into a fictional world is precisely what makes the fantasy genre so engrossing. And few are more engrossing than the sprawling epic universe in Martin's A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE series of books (of which GAME OF THRONES is based). And it seems HBO thinks so too.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Casey Bloys, HBO'S programming president, has confirmed that there have been talks with George R. R. Martin about a potential prequel spin-off series to the wildly popular GAME OF THRONES.

Holy shit-snacks, that's exciting news!

Now, obviously these are all early talks, and there's no guarantee anything will come of it. At the same time, though, there is such a rich history to Martin's world, and so many areas you could explore – from Robert's Rebellion, to the reign of the Targaryens, to even the First Men meeting the Children of the Forest. Although, there is the tiny fact that most prequels aren't great (*cough*PhantomMenace*cough*), so it'd make sense that Martin is a bit wary to commit right off the bat.

But what do you guys think? Would you like to spend more time in the GAME OF THRONES universe? And, how long do you think you'd last?
