Excuse the cheap title but here’s an interesting story for all you sports/movie/scandal fanatics. It was only a matter of time and it looks like that time has come sooner rather than later: HBO is producing a movie about Barry Bonds and his rise and apparent fall from grace. Ron Shelton has been hired to write and direct the picture, which will air on the cable network sometime in the future.
The movie will be based on the infamous book “Game of Shadows: Barry Bonds, BALCO and the Steroids Scandal That Rocked Professional Sports” written by San Francisco Chronicle journalists Mark Fainaru-Wada and Lance Williams. By now we all know the saga of Barry Bonds and I don’t think anybody doubts that something foul was at play. No casting has been announced, but I’m thinking Eddie Griffin for pre-steroids Bonds, and Michael Clarke Duncan for post-roid Barry. Ron Shelton has extensive experience in the world of sports movies, having directed BULL DURHAM, the Ty Cobb biopic COB, TIN CUP, and one of my personal favourites WHITE MEN CAN’T JUMP.
