Gore fans are gonna go ga-ga over this next flick currently loading into our genre arsenal. It’s called HELL KITTENS (I already like it) and the focus on its carnage is so great, that no tangible description of the plot has been given beyond the statement that it’s a “hardcore ’70s-style-exploitation revenge film.” Okay, sounds familiar enough. Let’s move on to all that great, gooey red stuff!
The gruesome FX are coming courtesy of Rickylee Leonard (who’s also worked on SURVIVAL and MURDER-SET-PIECES). He also stars in KITTENS. Here’s how director Dustin Austin gushed about his gore-gusher: “We’re thrilled to have such a talented artist making sure that HELL KITTENS’ setpieces are far beyond your average gore gags. When we originally approached the script, we knew that there are so many classic images, effects and moments in this genre that pushed the envelope. It’s a bit intimidating at first to sit down and say, ‘We’re going to make the ultimate eye-gouge gag’ when you have Lucio Fulci’s ZOMBIE to go up against. But Rickylee has helped us realize the excessive amount of effects in such a way that I really hope horror audiences get that old feeling back of seeing something fresh, shocking and disturbing. I want to put people in that theater in 1979 in every way we can.”
I like his last statement very much. I hope ol’ Rickylee is able to come through for him (and us). By the look of those pics up top and below, I do believe he is on the right track! And that final pic below happily helps to remind us that these KITTENS are indeed cute.
