Over at the HELLBOY Production Diary website, Mike Mignola and company have posted the first trailer for the second animated HELLBOY adventure entitled HELLBOY: BLOOD & IRON! A second one? Jeez, I haven’t even seen ALTAR OF STORMS yet and we have another one? del Toro hasn’t even begun filming THE GOLDEN ARMY yet! It’s enough to make a HELLBOY fan go nuts!
The story for BLOOD & IRON begins in 1939, when young Professor Bruttenholm destroyed Erzsebet Ondrushko, a female vampire who bathed in the blood of innocents to stay young (think Elizabeth Báthory, the real Blood Countess). Fast forward to the present, where someone in upstate New York is trying to bring her back, and the elderly Professor Bruttenholm has decided to investigate it himself. He takes the top BPRD agents, Hellboy, Liz Sherman and Abe Sapien, who are more worried about his welfare than the return of any vampire.
The animated film is expected to be released to TV later this year, with Anchor Bay handling the DVD thing. Click here for the Production Diary page.
