Hellboy reboot rated R for “strong bloody violence & gore throughout”

Director Neil Marshall's HELLBOY reboot starring David Harbour as the titular red guy is all set to punch its ungodly way into a theater near you this April. The film has long been teased as a hard R version of the character and today we have confirmation via the MPAA that the powers that be behind the scenes weren't pulling a VENOM on us and slapped this new take with an R for "strong bloody violence and gore throughout and language."

Holy shite. Those are some good reasons to be rated R, right? Yes, I'm as sad as everyone else that the studio didn't just let Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman give us an R-rated HELLBOY, but that ship has sailed and I think it best that we all just move on at this point. Not to be insensitive.

What do you think of this reboot and how excited are you to know that it will feature strong bloody violence and gore throughout? Let us know below!

Written by Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden, Aron Coleite, and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, this one finds Hellboy:

along with his team of paranormal researchers, trying to save the world from a medieval sorceress who wants to destroy humankind.

Church and Harbour's co-stars include Milla Jovovich as the villainous Nimue, Queen of Blood, Ian McShane as Hellboy's mentor Professor Broom, Sasha Lane as his love interest Alice Monaghan, Penelope Mitchell as the elder witch Ganeida, Daniel Dae Kim as Major Ben Daimio (who can turn into a jaguar), Sophie Okonedo as the seer Lady Hatton, Alistair Petrie as Lord Adam Glaren of the supernatural mystery investigating Osiris Club, and Brian Gleeson as the wizard Merlin. The HELLBOY reboot recently got pushed back from a January release date to April 12, 2019.
