Live-action Henchgirl series in development at Freeform

I hope you're ready to meet the Beta Carrot Team because a live-action Henchgirl series is in development at Freeform!

Full disclosure here, folks. Scout Comics' Henchgirl creator Kristen Gudsnuk isn't just one of the most talented up-and-coming creators making comics today, she's also a friend of mine. In fact, I've been waiting to hear about this project taking off for years, and I am so delighted to be bringing you this article today.

For the uninitiated, Henchgirl follows Mary Posa. Mary hates her job, working "long hours for little pay, no insurance and, worst of all, no respect. Her coworkers are jerks and her boss doesn't appreciate her." The twist: Mary is a henchgirl, and her boss is a supervillain. However, she is "cursed with a conscience" and would "give anything" do to something else with her life.

Per an official release from Scout Comics, Henchgirl is currently in development at Freeform — the Disney-owned network formerly known as ABC Family — with screenwriter Alex Ebel (Blood DriveDeadly Class) attached to adapt and Lindsey Shockley (Black-ishBenched) set to serve as showrunner.

Freeform's Henchgirl will be produced by The District (StumptownSuperstore) alongside Scout Comics. Ruben Fleischer and David Bernad (VenomZombieland) will executive produce through The District, with Elias Gertler overseeing the project.

Created, written, and illustrated by Gudsnuk (Making FriendsModern Fantasy), Henchgirl is a laugh-out-loud comic book series that packs every panel with personality, plenty of "chicken fat", and characters that are just as mysterious as they are entertaining. An expanded edition of Henchgirl was recently released by Dark Horse Comics, which offers the humor and benching love of the original, along with an extra new Henchgirl story! Be sure to ask your local comic shop about getting a copy for yourself today!
