Legendary has announced today that HER SMELL director Alex Ross Perry has been tapped to helm a feature adaptation of the Stephen King short story "Rest Stop." First published in Esquire magazine in 2003, and later included in King’s 2008 collection, “Just After Sunset,” the project is described as "a propulsive cat-and-mouse thriller that follows the twisted journey of two women after a fateful encounter at a highway rest stop." As per King's original short story, "Rest Stop" follows a mystery novelist who writes under a pseudonym that pulls into a turnpike rest stop, where he witnesses a scene of domestic violence. He then assumes his alter ego and jumps into action.
Producing the feature will be Craig Flores by way of his Bread & Circuses studio, while Alex Garcia and Ali Mendes are in charge of overseeing the project for Legendary.
Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer's version of King's horror classic PET SEMETARY starring Jason Clarke, Amy Seimetz, and John Lithgow is in theaters now. In the re-imagined tale of terror, Dr. Louis Creed and his wife, Rachel, relocate from Boston to rural Maine with their two young children. The couple soon discover a mysterious burial ground hidden deep in the woods near their new home. As you're likely to guess, things take a turn for the worse after Louis attempts to bring one of his children back from the dead, proving once and for all that sometimes, dead is better.
