Here’s the trailer for Sundance hit Me and Earl and the Dying Girl

Every year there is at least one breakout hit at the Sundance Film Festival that pleases both audiences and critics. Often, these films go on to be moderate hits at the box office while others become major successes. ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL looks like it could be the big hit that brings in the bucks as well.

Capitalizing on the success of THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, this movie looks like that romantic drama about teens with cancer as if it were directed by Wes Anderson. It looks fun, quirky, cute, and above all emotionally stirring. Couple that with a cast that includes recognized faces like Nick Offerman, Molly Shannon, Jon Bernthal, and Connie Britton along with newcomers Jesse Andrews, Thomas Mann, and BATES MOTEL’s Olivia Cooke, ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL looks like a surefire hit.

An awkward high-school senior (Thomas Mann) and a gravely ill classmate (Olivia Cooke) surprise themselves by becoming inseparable friends.

ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL comes from director Alejandro Gonzalez-Rejon, best known for helming episodes of Glee and American Horror Story as well as the recent reboot of THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN. This looks like it has some of the same sentimentality from the better episodes of Glee coupled with the type of indie credibility that makes movies like this feel a little more genuine. I can honestly say this trailer got me interested in seeing this movie.

ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL won both the Audience and Grand Jury Prize and Sundance and will aim to win your heart when it opens on June 12th.
