Entertainment Weekly scored the premiere look at Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen in THE HUNGER GAMES, wisely propping that sucker on the cover of their newest edition (which shelves May 20th). As you can see, the golden haired beaut has gone brunette, and rocks a bow and arrow as if she were friggin’ Robin of Locksley.
About her reaction to being cast, Lawrence had this to say:
“I knew that as soon as I said yes, my life would change. And I walked around an entire day thinking ‘It’s not too late, I could still go back and do indies, I haven’t said yes yet, it’s not too late.’”
She continued with:
“I love this story…and if I had said no, I would regret it every day.”
Set for a March 23rd release date – THE HUNGER GAMES takes place every year in the ruins of what was once North America, as the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains. Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
Stanley Tucci, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Wes Bentley and a whole gaggle of youngsters will also star in the flick.
