I don’t know about the rest of you but this seems like a very bad thing. Sure Chris Pine’s performance as ‘Captain James Kirk’ was outstanding and a STAR TREK 2 without Quinto but with Pine will still be awesome… but Quinto’s pressence will undoubtedly be missed! Now where is all this coming from? Well Quinto recently lent his voice to the STAR TREK ONLINE PC game, making it’s way to stores February 2nd, and Wired.com was able to catch up with the actor to talk all things Trek.
“I’m stepping away from Star Trek for at least two years — no movies, no conventions, no anything for a while…. I did this game to make an investment in the fan base.”
Wait? Are you serious? Is Quinto really out of STAR TREK 2? I find that hard to believe considering the whole cast was set to return. Then again the man does talk about his desire to jump to other genres in his immediate acting career: “I want to invite them [his fans] along with me on my journey, which is going to take them out of their comfort zone and into other areas and other styles of storytelling.” Well damn I’m definiately down to follow Quinto into other genres of film. If anything his roles in HEROES and STAR TREK should interest people to see what else the man can do.
I can see Quinto easily ditching HEROES considering the show hasn’t been amazing since his character’s story peaked a few seasons ago. But STAR TREK? I’d assume it’s pretty safe to take the man’s word for it considering if anybody would know the truth.. it’d be him. So if this is actually happening what now? Obviously the role of ‘Spock’ will be re-cast but do you think Quinto would be that easily replaceable? How about who might be the new actor to slap on the ears?
