So with that reasoning, dare I say I’m excited for this upcoming news? That news being that according to Variety, Summit Entertainment have just pulled out plans for a HIGHLANDER remake.
Now as a fan of the premise, but never getting a chance to see previous material… I’m stoked about this. (Don’t worry, I’ll work on checking out the original HIGHLANDER asap.)
Although that argument might not be needed seeing how some fans have actually been welcoming this remake. From what I hear, the series gradually worked on a vicious downfall, so this remake is some gold lining.
Well whether your for this remake or against it… doesn’t really matter. This is Hollywood.. the movie will make some kind of money… so it’s happening.
Summit are geared up to cash in big with TWILIGHT, so they’re aiming to restart the HIGHLANDER franchise. Summit’s President/Co-Chairman stated:
“I have always dreamed of reinventing this franchise.”
Sounds like this remake might be scoring a huge budget…. and I get the feeling that’s a very good thing. They’re already geared to make a big-budget blockbuster, signing IRON MAN scribes Art Marcum and Matt Holloway to pen HIGHLANDER. Apparently this remake will mix contemporary settings, action, mythology and medieval Scotland.
So that’s the word so far. As always, we’ll keep you updated.
