His House: We interview the cast and director of the Netflix horror film

HIS HOUSE may at first look like just another horror movie hitting Netflix in time for Halloween, but this movie manages to haunt you in ways that go deeper than the ordinary fright fest. The debut feature of Remi Weekes depicts the incredibly harrowing journey of two Sudanese refugees who attempt to make the best of a fresh start in England, despite the many challenges facing them in their new hometown. In addition to the hostile attitudes they encounter from their neighbors, the couple has to contend with the reality that their dilapidated abode is housing something even more sinister than anything they've dealt with before. Horrors of both the past and present collide to make this one very disturbing house warming…

The film has expertly been directed by Weekes, who also wrote the screenplay; you would not know it was his first feature (he had previously directed some short films). He is assisted by two terrific performances from leads Sope Dìrísù and Wunmi Mosaku, who give their characters serious depth and humanity – quite necessary considering some of the terrifying ordeals they go through during the film.

We recently had the opportunity to talk with Weekes, Dirisu and Mosaku via Zoom to talk about HIS HOUSE – the challenges of making it, the intense atmosphere on set and plenty more!
