History of the World, Part II series images tease Mel Brooks’ long-awaited sketch-style sequel

It’s good to be a Hulu subscriber because Mel Brooks‘ History of the World, Part II series is finally ready to rewrite the past for laughs and scrutiny. Hulu shared a gallery of images from the original comedy series on Wednesday, featuring images of Nick Kroll, Wanda Sykes, and Ike Barinholtz occupying various historical points for the sketch-style presentation.

According to Hulu’s official description, “After waiting over 40 years, there is finally a sequel to the seminal Mel Brooks film, History of the World, Part I, with each episode featuring a variety of sketches that take us through different periods of human history.”

The series stars Mel Brooks (SpaceballsSilent MovieBlazing Saddles), Wanda Sykes (Bad MomsEvan AlmightyMonster-in-Law), Nick Kroll (Sausage PartyBig MouthWhat We Do in the Shadows), and Ike Barinholtz (Suicide SquadDisaster MovieThe Mindy Project). Gary Nguyen, David Stassen, Dove Cameron, Pamela Adlon, and Johnny Knoxville also appear throughout the series.

Last year, The Ankler reported that Brooks’ History of the World, Part II series could feature a who’s who of Hollywood royalty, including Malcolm Barrett, Jillian Bell, D’Arcy Carden, Rob Corddry, Robby Hoffman, Mitra Jouhari, Joe Mande, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Seth Rogen, JB Smoove, and David Wain. Additionally, Adam Sandler, Steve Martin, Martin Short, Ted Danson, Natasha Lyonne, Tim Robinson, Kumail Nanjiani, Keke Palmer, Michael Keaton, Taika Waititi, and Danny DeVito, plus folks like Hailee Steinfeld, Jacob Elordi, Charles Melton, Zazie Beetz, Idina Menzel, Pam Oliver, and Tara Lipinski could show up as well.

History of the World Part 1, released in 1981, featured chapters from the Stone Age to Ancient Rome, the French Revolution, and the Spanish Inquisition. The Hulu series looks to cover new ground with biblical segments to Shakespearean times and more. The laugh-out-loud comedy starred Brooks, Gregory Hines, Dom DeLuise, Madeline Kahn, Harvey Korman, Cloris Leachman, Ron Carey, Mary-Margaret Humes, Orson Wells, and more.

In the new images for History of the World, Part II, we see Kroll, Sykes, and Barinholtz bundled up and ready to give the play-by-play for some ice-rink-related shenanigans. We also find Sykes taking power back, Kroll selling Putz Mates, and Barinholtz showcasing a book called The Crimson Wave. It’s a bizarre mix of images. However, Brooks is an odd person with a unique sense of humor. I say bring it on.
