HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN appears to be a “love it or hate it” proposition; this based on the comments I’ve seen on our own message boards, as well as the general word ’round the campfire (or garbage fire, as it were). Oddly enough, I’m squarely in the middle: I appreciate its deviant aesthetic, some of its rancid violence and – most of all – Rutger Hauer’s intense, weird performance, but I also think it’ll lack replay value due to the fact that it simply isn’t enough fun. This is not a movie I’m dying to see again, and it should scream “watch me a million times!” (The Arrow shares my thoughts; check out his review HERE.)
Nevertheless, it’s hitting theaters on MAY 6th and is already playing On Demand, but those of you who aren’t able to peep it in either format will be happy to know that it has its DVD/Blu-ray release date set: JULY 5th.
If you’re already a HOBO fan, this news will make you wet, as the discs are going to be packed with awesome material. Extras on the 2-disc DVD and Blu-ray will include a commentary with director Jason Eisener and Rutger Hauer, a second commentary with the director, producer, writer, and David Brunt from the original Hobo with a Shotgun, deleted scenes, an alternate ending, video blogs, featurettes (“More Blood, More Heart: The Making of Hobo with a Shotgun”, “HDNet: A Look at Hobo with a Shotgun”), a Faux Trailer Contest Winner, TV spots, trailers, and more.
They’re making it worth your while to party with the Hobo come JULY 5th, there’s no denying that. No cover art has been dished out just yet, but when it comes our way we’ll toss it in your trash can.
