TRAINSPOTTING writer John Hodge has been picked by Walden Media to adapt the 5-book series THE DARK IS RISING for the big screen. He will start with the second book, presumably marking an intention to deliver the project as the current Hollywood powerhouse – a trilogy.
The story follows Will Stanton, a boy whose life is turned upside down when he learns that he is the last of a group of immortal warriors who have dedicated their lives to fighting the forces of the dark. As he uncovers mysterious clues, Stanton discovers that with the dark once again rising, the future of the world rests in his hands.
Sounds a lot like HEAVY METAL to me, but without John Candy or the hot heroine. Nevertheless, it’s always fun to see tales of Chosen Ones battling Forces of Darkness. For now we’ll overlook the fact that producer Marc Platt worked on the very un-genre LEGALLY BLONDE.
