In a recent interview with Gamespot, id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead revealed that the company’s next game will focus on the next-gen systems, with a new Wolfenstein game to be the XBOX 360’s platform of choice.
As for upcoming projects, a new Return To Castle Wolfenstein is being worked on for the 360. “The next Wolf[enstein] game is using the 360 as its primary development platform but will be released on the PC as well.” The next-gen game is currently being developed at Raven Software, which also developed Quake 4 for the 360 and PC.
When the topic of DOOM came up, Hollenshead stated that id was pleased with the film, and added that Wolfenstein is currently in the cards for a film adaptation. “I think it could make a great film. It’s been optioned previously, but now we have the rights back again. I’m hoping that once the game development gets some exposure that interest in Hollywood will perk up.” Hollenshead said almost the same thing in an interview back in December, so take that for what it’s worth. Personally, I was let down by Quake 4 after being spoiled on awesome shooters like F.E.A.R.. No screenshots have surfaced as of yet for the next-gen Wolfenstein, so there’s something to look forward to while waiting for your XBOX 360 to arrive.
