Now, this is one of those films that begs the question, “Is this entertainment, or is this as close to a snuff film as you can get without murdering someone?”
According to DavisDVD, Ruggero Deodato’s notorious 1979 film CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST (still banned and censored around the world, and one of the most controversial movies ever made) arrives on DVD October 25th from Grindhouse Releasing (although rumours persist that the disk may be delayed). This deluxe 25th Anniversary Collector’s Edition boasts a brand-new anamorphic widescreen transfer of the uncensored director’s cut from a high definition digital restoration, along with Dolby Digital Stereo remix and original Mono tracks. Extras on the two-disc set include an audio commentary with director Ruggero Deodato and star Robert Kerman, “The Making of Cannibal Holocaust” hour-long Italian documentary featuring rare behind-the-scenes footage, exclusive on-camera interviews with Deodato, Kerman and co-star Gabriel Yorke, original theatrical trailers, stills and poster art galleries, the original shooting script, “Necrophagia” music video, liner notes by horror journalist Chas Balun and more. It’s limited to 10,000 copies, so if you’re into your gross-out gore with no humor in sight (unlike BAD TASTE), then you’d better be quick to snatch this up. The cover art for the Region 1 release (below) was apparently “banned”, so keep your eyes open for a tamer cover.
