We all bitch and moan about remakes – most of the time we’ve got reason to (I’m looking at you, all you Platinum Dunes atrocities). But THE WOLFMAN is one that I am perfectly fine with, since it seems like it’s being approached with respect and reverence for the original.
The remake is being written by Andrew Kevin Walker (SE7EN), will star Benicio Del Toro (which is just about perfect casting), and shall be under the direction of Mark Romanek (who helmed the very under-appreciated ONE HOUR PHOTO, as well as a number of awesome music videos). This won’t be an obnoxious update taking place in New York or some other glitzy urban setting. Instead, it will faithfully take place in Victorian-era England, where foggy forests and eerie, lantern-lit streets will be Wolfy’s territory. I likes this movie’s potential…
The film may be getting even cooler, now that Anthony Hopkins is close to signing on as the Wolfman’s poppa, according to Rotten Tomatoes. Negotiations are taking place, and Hopkins has apparently been assured that it’s a great script, and that the part is “wonderful.”
Sounds good to me. Now all Wolfman needs is a village full of walking-snacks, and a lady friend. After all, as a great movie once informed us: “Wolfman’s got nards.” Yes he does, kids. Yes he does…
