What does that image up top make you think of? On second thought, don’t answer that. I’ll just tell you what it reminds me of: 70’s grind house horror. And I believe that is the style that the filmmakers behind this new horror indie from Norway called HORA (translates to WHORE) are going for. Up top is one of the first stills from the flick, which does have a very familiar plot synopsis (and no, it has nothing to do with a bunch of Jewish people dancing to their deaths). Here’s how it goes:
The film follows Rikke, a crime-writer who is working on a new novel and needs to get out of the city to finish it. She visits her mother’s house in a small town named Dokka to finish her novel, attracting the attention of a number of rowdy male locals, including a retarded man, a bully and an “American psycho” type of guy. They catch Rikke one day in her house and strip her naked. Rikke is then attacked and attacked and attacked… and this is where the rape stops and the revenge begins.
Hmm, can anyone guess where this plot seems to be lifted nearly word-for-word from? It’s HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL! No, I’m just kidding. I wonder how many times HORA’s director, Reinert Kiil, has seen I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE?
