Mike Flanagan’s director’s cut of Doctor Sleep coming to HBO Max!

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

While I was skeptical about a sequel to Stanley Kubrick's classic horror film THE SHINING – as well as the fact that it was going to be based on a Stephen King novel that Kubrick diverged heavily from – I gave Mike Flanagan's DOCTOR SLEEP (OWN HERE) starring Ewan McGregor a chance. And I'm glad I did, as – while not flawless – I felt it was a surprisingly decent follow-up that could've easily fallen flat on its face (like that made-for-TV SHINING remake from the last 90s did). Here's the official synopsis:

Struggling with alcoholism, Dan Torrance remains traumatized by the sinister events that occurred at the Overlook Hotel when he was a child. His hope for a peaceful existence soon becomes shattered when he meets Abra, a teen who shares his extrasensory gift of the "shine." Together, they form an unlikely alliance to battle the True Knot, a cult whose members try to feed off the shine of innocents to become immortal.

Meanwhile, Flanagan's film received a three-hour director's cut that was released on streaming and home release, and it seems he has officially confirmed that it will also be available on HBO Max! Here's what the director had to say on his official Twitter account!

So you can now stream both the theatrical and director cuts on HBO Max right now!

But what do you guys think? Fans of DOCTOR SLEEP? If so, which version do you prefer? Either way, sound off below!
