Monsters director Gareth Edwards teams up with Bekmambetov for sci-fi thriller?

It’s always wise for a director to line up their next gig before the release of their latest movie, and such seems to be the case for MONSTERS helmer Gareth Edwards. Word from Deadline has it that Edwards and WANTED director Timur Bekmambetov are coming together to produce an untitled sci-fi thriller.

Tagged as “an epic human story, set in a futuristic world without humanity,” Edwards will write the script with plans to direct himself. Timur, who’s been ambivalent to say the least in regards to choosing his next directorial project, has taken more of a producorial role as of late (as he will on this, too, with Jim Lemley). No word on a production slate as of yet.

Edwards’ MONSTERS opens a limited run later this month (Oct. 29), while Bekmambetov has finally committed to directing ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER. Or so we think…

But what do you think? Diggin’ a Timur/Edwards matchup, or do you need to see MONSTERS first to feel good about the pairing?

Let it spill…
