Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut Lost River releases weird image

Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut LOST RIVER is heading to the Cannes Film Festival next month, so it’s about time we started seeing some goods from it. Formerly titled HOW TO CATCH A MONSTER, it stars Christina Hendricks, Ben Mendohlson, Matt Smith, Barbara Steele, Ian De Caestecker and Eva Mendes and weaves elements of fantasy noir, and suspense into a modern day fairytale.

The first image from LOST RIVER, courtesy of The Film Stage, can be checked out above. Apparently that’s the lovely Ms. Hendricks we see, caught up in a translucent bubble of some kind. Dunno what’s going on there, but as the film sounds rather odd, we should expect to see all sorts of oddities when it’s released.

Here’s the film’s synopsis:

Set against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city, Billy, a single mother of two, is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while her teenage son, Bones, discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town. Both Billy and Bones must dive deep into the mystery, if their family is to survive.

LOST RIVER does not have a release date yet, although Warner Bros. will distribute.
