Tales from the Crypt revival delayed over rights issues

Tales from the Crypt

In early 2016, it was announced that a revival of Tales from the Crypt was being set up at TNT, with M. Night Shyamalan (SPLIT) shepherding the horror anthology series back to the small screen. Just over a year later, I'm starting to wonder if we'll ever see the show's return.

Although TNT had big plans of making the show the centerpiece of a weekly horror block, things have been quiet on the Crypt front for a while. The network has now released a statement saying that the show has been delayed due to rights issues:

The underlying rights to the classic, vintage property are complicated. TNT and others have been pursuing a solution for more than a year, with significant progress being made. We look forward to the potential for further active development of this valuable franchise once the clearance process is fully resolved."

It's good to hear that progress has been made and it would be terrific if the issues can be fully resolved, but I'm also bracing myself for the possibility that this new Crypt just might not happen.

Inspired by EC Comics' horror titles from the 1950s, the first Tales from the Crypt series ran for seven seasons on HBO, from 1989 to 1996.
