The Strain, Guillermo del Toro and Carlton Cuse's modern vampire series centering around a viral outbreak in New York City and based on a trilogy of novels by del Toro and co-author Chuck Hogan, has just been renewed for a third blood-sucking season.
Says FX Networks original programming president Eric Schrier:
Guillermo and Carlton have delivered two thrilling seasons of The Strain that are captivating and visually arresting, doing justice to the original novel trilogy and meeting fans’ high expectations in the process. We're excited to see them carry this powerful story into a third season on FX.
The producers have previously said that they intend for this Corey Stoll-starring series to either run three or five seasons, but there is no word yet as to whether or not this will be the season that puts the stake in the heart of the show.
No official date has been announced yet, but The Strain Season 3 will premiere in Summer 2016.
