War for the Planet of the Apes nets Sara Canning

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Television viewers may recognize actress Sara Canning from her roles on Primeval: New World, The Vampire Diaries, Remedy, and Hell on Wheels, or her appearances on Supernatural and Smallville, but chances are that you won't be able to recognize her in her new role, as she has just been cast as "a new ape character" in the currently filming WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES.

Canning joins a cast that includes Andy Serkis, Judy Greer, Steve Zahn, Karin Konoval, and Aleks Paunovic as her fellow apes, Gabriel Chavarria as one of the human leads, Woody Harrelson as a villainous human Colonel, and child actress Amiah Miller, whose character's species has not been announced.

Directed by Matt Reeves from a screenplay he has written with Mark Bomback, WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES is the third installment in a storyline that began with 2011's RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES and continued with last year's DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. It is the ninth film in the APES franchise overall. In addition to all these movies, there was also a live action TV show and an animated series. It all began with a 1963 novel written by Pierre Boulle.

WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES' plot is being kept under wraps for now, but we're sure to learn more as production continues. We have a bit of a wait for this one, it's not set to hit theatres until July 14, 2017, so it's understandable that they're going to hold back on some things for a while.
