Analysts say the sudden horror flick boom in part reflects a desire for American audiences to escape the real-world violence from Iraq and elsewhere that has featured so prominently in newspaper headlines and TV news.
I can see that, but what really makes sense over all that psychological mumbo-jumbo is what Lions Gate president Tom Ortenberg had to say as to why horror movies are so sucessful these days: grass-roots marketing to loyal audiences who embrace the genre with fervor.
Finally, we’re getting some props for this horror boom! And no doubt, he’s right! I know I’ll go see some horror, even if everything I heard about it says it’s crap- just for the love it!
