Happy Monday folks! It is time for your weekly dose of Box Office, more specifically how our genre fared.
In what should come as no surprise, THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN PART 1 took the number 1 position and knocked out all the competition. It raked in a lot of cash; however from the franchise I think NEW MOON still holds the opening weekend record. All the tweens and their mothers flocked to the theaters to watch Bella and Edward get married, do the nasty and Bella some how getting preggers to a vampire. It makes no sense and the film is rather boring, but for some reason the fans love it. The film still isn’t very good but at least it didn’t take itself too seriously.
Last weeks number 1 IMMORTALS, sank down a little but still remained in the Top 3. It really did have quite a significant drop, I guess people got dragged to that other film and couldn’t see this one. The other new entries were HAPPY FEET 2 and THE DESCENDANTS, making a little but what is most impressive is that THE DESCENDANTS made over a million off only 29 screens, way to go Clooney.
This upcoming Thursday is Thanksgiving and a bunch of new films are getting released. Not much for our genre, we’ll see if BREAKING DAWN will keep its number one spot or whether something else will knock it down. Look for THE MUPPETS, HUGO and ARTHUR CHRISTMAS in wide release, with THE ARTIST, RAMPART (looks bad ass btw), MY WEEK WITH MARILYN and David Cronenberg’s latest A DANGEROUS METHOD in limited release.
