It is the last week of October is upon us, and the big release for Friday really was PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 3, the new ‘ghostly’ franchise. It took the number 1 spot, making more than the previous entries did and breaking box office records to boot! It has now become the biggest horror movie opening in history, as well as the highest opening October release of all time. With that said there is no way this will be the last film, and I am sure this time next year part 4 will come.
The other two new releases did not make much of an impact with THE THREE MUSKETEERS cracking the Top 5 and JOHNNY ENGLISH REBORN scraping in the Top 10. Last week’s horror entry THE THING sank even lower, barely making a dent, losing an astounding 63% of its audience. Next week it will be all forgotten about, I am sure PARANORMAL ACTIVITY will remain at the top, with the coming weekend being the ol’ Halloween celebration.
Strangely enough there are no horror films up for release over Halloween, not sure why because that would seem like the smart thing to do. Instead we’ve got the sci-fi actioner IN TIME, and then Johnny Depp in THE RUM DIARY and the spin-off PUSS IN BOOTS. What gives studios? Release horror!
