Horror @ the Box Office: Sept 29-Oct 1 – Audiences would rather see dolphins over Daniel Craig and Rachel Weizs

Another Monday, that means another weekend has been and gone. So what films made some moolah this weekend? Well I’ll give you a hint, not our genre …

Yes sadly audiences were more interested in seeing dolphins in DOLPHIN TALE, which hit the number 1 spot. The four new release films made it into the Top 10, but didn’t seem to make much of a splash.

The genre release for the weekend DREAM HOUSE did not even crack the Top 5, and poor reviews probably attributed to its performance. Word has it Jim Sheridan’s original film got reshot, recut and all the rest so the final product is not what was intended. Other releases such as KILLER ELITE and CONTAGION saw a pretty big drop.

This Friday sees the first slew of October releases; will audiences be checking out these new films? For wide release we’ve got the Hugh Jackman vehicle REAL STEEL, and limited releases for MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE and INTRUDERS. But the one you’ve really been waiting for THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE 2, opening Friday.
