Hostel Gets Rated

The MPAA and others have been bitching and moaning over the last few months that there needs to be a separate rating system for horror movies that push the envelope on torture, violence and all things sadistic. Partly due to the SAW films and Eli Roth’s HOSTEL, the backlash has been large… and yet it appears it was nothing but talk, as Roth’s HOSTEL: PART 2 just squeaked by the ratings board, sporting the ever glorious R rating in one try.

Not that it’s an easy R by any means, as PART 2 is R for sadistic scenes of torture and bloody violence, terror, nudity, sexual content, language and some drug content. Or pretty much, it’s R for ALL of the RIGHT reasons. Seriously, it hits all of the right elements, just like PART 1 did. Did we expect anything less from Roth? No. Did I expect the MPAA to reject the flick at least once before approval? Yes. Maybe it means Roth was holding back… or he just got lucky. Either way, it’s rated R and won’t need to go through more edits before it hits theaters June 8th. Hurray for all.
