These days, when you see a horror movie that really sticks with you, it’s best to keep an eye on the director, as they’re sure to do bigger and better things in the future. Chris Smith directed a little flick last year called
CREEP starring Franka Potente- sure it had it’s flaws, but it also had some really great stuff in there too. Smith is back at it again for his second dip into horror with the upcoming SEVERENCE, and it’s looking like he’s going to deliver again!
The new flick stars Danny Dyer, and goes a little something like this(via
FrightFest):
Dealing with serious issues as the War on Terror while still humorously conveying the sicko goods, Severance is an impressively offbeat approach to modern horror that expertly shifts the fun and frightening ground with smart precision when least expected. Aided by an exemplary ensemble cast to die for and indeed they do, most very nastily – Smith neatly threads gut-wrenching grisliness through witty comedy dynamics without ever sacrificing the delightful edginess or full-throttle scares. When the weapons multi-national Palisade Defence reward their seven-strong European sales division with a luxury Romanian mountain weekend, little do they realise they will come under sustained attack by a war-crazed contingent out for bloody revenge. Dead funny because it’s played dead straight, this glorious genre-bender skewers all slasher clichés while raising the belly laughs. Smith’s determinedly gonzo style pays off and only he could plonk silent movie imagery, shockumentary footage and Carry On sex farce side by side and get away with it. In the all-round fabulous cast Danny Dyer’s stoner slacker registers hugely as does Laura Harris in the Ripley channelling stakes. Beginning with two romping Euro hookers stripping off to escape murder and ending on a sensational one-liner in the Some Like it Hot tradition, Severance ticks all the boxes and a whole lot more.
As if you needed any more persuading than these new pics that
The Hollywood News scored- I mean, wow-za! That’s all I needed to see- I’m so there! Hot chicks, wearing close to nothing, covered in blood and sporting firearms. Yeah. I think we may have a candidate for the most kick-ass movie of the year!
SEVERENCE is set to debut at Fright Fest in the UK this August… and hopefully the world shortly thereafter. To check out these pics in a larger format, as well as another one, go ahead and click
