How to Train your Dragon’s Dean Deblois to helm Micronauts feature

Some very big news related to Paramount's long-gestating MICRONAUTS movie has reached the bullpen, folks! After much preparation and consideration, it's been announced that HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON filmmaker Dean DeBlois will write and direct a feature adaptation of the time-honored toy line, featuring the characters Arcturus Rann, Marionette, Bug and Acroyear.

DeBlois' adaptation will be a live-action effort, with plans to release the film in theaters on June 4, 2021. Originally, the Micronauts were launched in Japan as "Microman," but were then re-imagined for American consumers by Mego toys and had found their way into a Marvel Comics series as subatomic soldiers of soldiers of fortune.

The MICRONAUTS project is just one of many to come from Paramount joining forces with Hasbro to establish their "Hasbro Cinematic Universe." Like Marvel's MCU, Paramount's HCU will look to combine franchise's the likes of G.I. Joe and Micronauts, as well as cherished properties Visionaries, M.A.S.K. and ROM: Spaceknight. It's yet to be confirmed if all the aforementioned properties will find their way into Paramount's overall plan, though you can bet that this M.A.S.K. fan has his fingers officially crossed.

According to THR, who exclusively broke the news about MICRONAUTS this Monday afternoon, Hasbro’s Brian Goldner, Stephen Davis and Greg Mooradian are producing via the company's film division, AllSpark Pictures.

Little else is known about the MICRONAUTS project at this time, other than that the film will center on a team of intergalactic explorers unlike the world has ever seen.
