Lord of The Rings: Howard Shore in talks to compose music for Amazon series

A familiar sound may be headed to Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings series. It has been announced that Oscar-winning composer Howard Shore, whose work on the Lord of the Rings trilogy earned him three Oscars, is in talks to compose music for the TV series.

This is an important development because neither writer/director Peter Jackson nor the original cast is a part of the show. This would bring in some familiarity for the fans seeking some connection to the film trilogy. Shore’s music was a significant part of those films so him scoring the TV show would provide some harmonic continuity.

Amazon put in $465 million for the show’s first season, making it the most expensive TV series of all time. The so-far untitled series based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic novels recently wrapped principal photography on Season 1 and is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on September 2, 2022. Season 1 post-production will continue in New Zealand through June 2022, and pre-production on Season Two will begin concurrently in the UK right after January 1, 2022.

Shore’s film credits include The Hobbit trilogyTwilight Saga, Hugo, The DepartedPieces Of A Woman, Philadelphia, The Silence of the Lambs, and many others. He has provided the unforgettable score that framed the stakes in the battle between Sauron’s evil forces of Orcs, Goblins, and Uruk-Hai forces against the men, hobbits, elves, and dwarves in Middle Earth. There is no denying the power of his music so landing him for the TV series would be a huge win for Amazon and the fans that are looking forward to what sweeping score he will come up with next.
