Hudgens is Beastly

What is up with basic Micky Mouseketeer, Vanessa Hudgens? It seems that she is attempting to turn towards the dark side (meaning our “genre” side as opposed to the “kiddie, crappy HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL” light side). My reasoning for this is the fact that little Miss Hudgens seems to be aiming for a nice chunk of horror-centric roles. She already tried out for a part in the gay TWILIGHT sequel, but didn’t get it. She’s also the main contender for DEAD @ 17. And she’s even already scored a spot in Zack Snyder’s SUCKER PUNCH.

Perhaps the totally nude pics of her that surfaced on the web have sort of put a rush on her cutting the Disney cord? Regardless, she is now in line to star in yet another genre effort for CBS Films called BEASTLY. The flick is a modern-day retelling of the ol’ BEAUTY AND THE BEAST formula and is based on the young adult novel by Alex Flinn. Here’s the plot:

Set in Manhattan, the movie tells the story of a handsome rich kid with a mean streak. When he ditches a date, a curse is placed upon him, turning him into everything he hates. The grotesque transformation leaves him with the seemingly impossible task of finding true love to break the ugly spell.

Gee, I wonder what will happen. 19-year-old British actor Alex Pettyfer from TORMENTED is in talks to co-star with Hudgens. BEASTLY is scheduled to shoot this summer.
