So Vincenzo Natali’s SPLICE is pretty good huh? That seems to be the going consensus coming out of Sundance considering the film is in the middle of a huge bidding war!
According to The Hollywood Reporter a number of studios have all expressed interest in the freaky sci-fi flick including the Weinstein Co., First Look Studios and Samuel Goldwyn Films among others. Why the big deal? Well apparently the film is pretty good or something and this bidding war isn’t just for the rights to the film but is actually ‘offering service deals, under which a movie’s producers pay them an upfront fee and a percentage of boxoffice returns to get the film into theaters.’
The Reporter gets into A LOT more detail concerning the matter so you can head right over HERE for all the juicy details!
So what’s the brass tacks? Well what I’m taking from this mess is that SPLICE is definitely worth checking out! Elsa and Clive, two young rebellious scientists, defy legal and ethical boundaries and forge ahead with a dangerous experiment: splicing together human and animal DNA to create a new organism. Named “Dren”, the creature rapidly develops from a deformed female infant into a beautiful but dangerous winged human-chimera, who forges a bond with both of her creators – only to have that bond turn deadly.
No word yet on which studio has won the film, which stars Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley (below), but hopefully we get an announcement soon! Who would of thought so many studios would be dieing to adopt that freaky little bastard directly below? We live in a crazy world. As soon as we hear the good word on where SPLICE ends up we’ll pass it along to all of you!
