Hugh Jackman is the president that never was in The Front Runner trailer

Columbia Pictures has unveiled a new trailer for THE FRONT RUNNER, an upcoming biographical drama starring Hugh Jackman as American Senator Gary Hart. The upcoming political pic sets a watchful eye on Hart's 1988 presidential campaign, and tells the story of how the hopeful's philandering ways ruined his chance to preside over America from the watchtower that is the Oval Office.

Here's the film's official synopsis:

Gary Hart, former senator of Colorado, becomes the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1987. Hart's intelligence, charisma and idealism makes him popular with young voters, leaving him with a seemingly clear path to the White House. All that comes crashing down when allegations of an extramarital affair surface in the media, forcing the candidate to address a scandal that threatens to derail his campaign and personal life.

Directed by Jason Reitman (JUNO, THANK YOU FOR SMOKING), from a script he co-wrote with Matt Bai (FRONTLINE, HOUSE OF CARDS) and Jay Carson (HOUSE OF CARDS), THE FRONT RUNNER stars Hugh Jackman (LOGAN, REAL STEEL), Vera Farmiga (THE DEPARTED, THE CONJURING) and J.K. Simmons (LA LA LAND, WHIPLASH), with Mark O'Brien (ARRIVAL, THE LAST TYCOON), Molly Ephraim (HALT AND CATCH FIRE, LAST MAN STANDING), and Chris Coy (THE CEUCE, BANSHEE), among several others.

According to our own Chris Bumbray, who was fortunate enough to catch THE FRONT RUNNER at this year's TIFF event, the story of Hart's self-created downfall provides audiences with an in "intriguing history lesson and a revealing look at how power and prestige is nothing if not fragile." You can read Bumbray's review in its entirety here, and be sure to catch THE FRONT RUNNER when it lands in theaters on November 21st.
