I Came By: Babak Anvari wraps filming on thriller starring Kelly Macdonald

Babak Anvari, the director who earned a lot of positive attention with his feature directorial debut Under the Shadow but had a bit of a sophomore slump with his second film Wounds, has now wrapped production on this third feature, a neo-noir thriller called I Came By. Deadline reports that I Came By, a Netflix Original, was filmed in London and stars George Mackay (1917), Kelly Macdonald (No Country for Old Men), Hugh Bonneville (Paddington), Percelle Ascott (The Innocents), and Varada Sethu (Strike Back).

Scripted by Anvari and Namsi Khan (His Dark Materials), I Came By follows

a rebellious young graffiti artist who targets the homes of the wealthy elite but discovers a shocking secret that leads him on a journey endangering himself and those closest to him.

I Came By is one of the first titles on the new UK film slate at Netflix, which was commissioned by Director Of UK Features Fiona Lamptey with the intention of developing distinctive British productions. The film was produced by Lucan Toh for Two and Two Pictures. Film4 and New Regency developed the project and executive produce alongside XYZ.

In addition to working with Netflix on this movie, Anvari and Toh have also renewed their first look TV deal with AMC Studios, a deal they first signed in 2017. Anvari hasn’t had a show air on AMC yet, but he was an executive producer and director on the Hulu series Monsterland.

Like many others, I enjoyed Under the Shadow and didn’t enjoy Wounds so much. Still, I’m on board to check out whatever Anvari makes in the future, and I look forward to giving I Came By a chance.
