I Spit director talks

Last week, we revealed for you the cast of the I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE remake, which just got finished shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana. Director Steven R. Monroe (who used to be an assistant cameraman on “Pee Wee’s Playhouse”, for God’s sake) spoke to Moviehole a little about his vision for the already-controversial flick.

“We wanted to stay as true to the original as possible while making sure it was updated in a few ways. There is one additional lead character, a Sheriff played by Andrew Howard, and of course we upped the brutality and length of the tortures and kills – as they were quite short in the original – which was really a disturbing Thriller at heart not a Horror film. I also wanted to update the look of the film and give it a very voyeuristic quality and gritty realism”.

Hard to believe they’ve upped the brutality on something that was already so vile, but I’ll take his word for it. I’m not a fan of the original, but I wasn’t a fan of the original LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT either, and that remake was fairly respectable, so let’s remain cautiously optimistic about this one. If you can be optimistic about such a thing…
