Ice Cube and his son may team up for a thriller set during the L.A. riots

Update: According to Deadline, a representative for the pair said that “Ice Cube and O’Shea Jackson Jr. have no plans to commit to this project at this time. Any speculations or rumors that suggest that they are confirmed are simply untrue."

When it was first announced that O'Shea Jackson Jr. had been cast in the role of his own father in STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON, many thought it smacked of nepotism; however, once the film was released, those same folks found themselves eating their words as O'Shea Jackson Jr.'s living embodiment of a young Ice Cube was praised by many. Hollywood took notice as well and now a film which would team up O'Shea Jackson Jr. with his father may be in the works.

THR reports that Ice Cube and O'Shea Jackson Jr. are in talks with Lionsgate to star in APRIL 29, 1992, an action thriller set during the 1992 Los Angeles riots. The film, which has been scripted by Sascha Penn, deals with an ex-criminal (Ice Cube) who must save his son (O'Shea Jackson Jr.) when a group of thugs raid his place of work with the hope of stealing an expensive amount of platinum. Donovan Marsh (AVENGED) is set to direct APRIL 29, 1992 with production looking to kick off next February.

Talks with Ice Cube and O'Shea Jackson Jr. are still in the early stages so this is by no means a guarantee, but I would expect that a father-son team up will be inevitable even if APRIL 29, 1992 doesn't pan out. STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON opened in theaters on August 14, 2015 and you can read our own Eric Walkuski's review of of the film right here.
