IFC, usually not ones to get involved in 7-figure bidding wars, wound up battling against Magnolia Pictures for SUPER and in the end securing North American distribution rights for an untold amount of money. Though it was more moeny that they’re accustomed to spending, IFC said in a statement, “This is exactly the kind of film we want the IFC Midnight brand to be associated with.”
In case SUPER has been flying underneath your radar, it follows Frank (Rainn Wilson) whose wife (Liv Tyler) leaves him for a psychopathic drug dealer (Kevin Bacon). Frank snaps and the Crimson Bolt is born. With a hand-made suit, a wrench, and a crazed sidekick named Boltie (Ellen Page), the Crimson Bolt beats his way through the mean streets of crime in hopes of winning back his wife.
No word yet on when the film might see release but hopefully sometime soon.
