There are some horror films that are funny by design and some horror films that just end being funny because of how poorly made they are…and then there are the new breed of films; the horror/comedies. The craft of horror films probably does lend itself pretty well to spoofs; I mean just think about it. Stop and think about all the overly tense situations… as our protagonist walks slowly through a dark hall, or the big boobed babe who is dumb enough to trip and fall when the killer is stalking her…I mean these formulas were going to be made fun of eventually. And it’s because of the success that the SCARY MOVIE franchise has enjoyed that the horror/comedy has become a profitable gimmick for studios.
And with all that in mind, it is no wonder that a new movie is looking to capitalize on that very market, as a film with the title of INFESTATION is looking to grab its’ piece of the pie. The film is being directed by Kyle Rankin, and Christopher Marquette (pictured) has just signed on as the lead. Marquette was most recently seen in the film ALPHA DOG, while Rankin might be known from his stint on Project Greenlight 2, when he directed THE BATTLE OF SHAKER HEIGHTS.
INFESTATION’s plot goes like this: “Described as ’28 DAYS LATER’ meets ‘SHAUN OF THE DEAD,’ INFESTATION follows a slacker (Marquette) who awakes to find himself weak, wrapped in webbing and cocooned to the wall of his office. After realizing that the world has been taken over by giant alien insects, he wakes a ragtag group of strangers and together they fight for survival.”
