Waaaay back in September, our good friend Jared dropped us a line HERE on the cast for Jeff Buhler’s upcoming psycho-ward shocker INSANITARIUM. Well, now the flick is in post-production and writer/director Buhler sounds terribly pleased with the performances of his actors.
“I was lucky to get such a great ensemble to play the characters,” he told the peeps at Fango. “We have Peter [BRUISER] Stormare as the doctor and Jesse [DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES] Metcalfe as our hero—and it’s an image we have not seen from him before. Here he is dark and edgy, it’s not his usual pretty-boy image; he really shows his range as an actor. Kiele Sanchez (above) from LOST is also in this, and she’s a great actress.”
“Everyone took this very seriously,” he went on, “and for such a wild premise, we tried to keep it all grounded and as realistic as possible. Most of the effects were shot in-camera, there’s not much CGI and the actors never camp it up. We want this to be very realistic and chilling. The situations and characters are so strange, and everyone is so f*cked up, that it becomes fascinating to watch.”
Wow, that sure sounds like some big-ass praise. I hope Buhler’s confident feelings of excitement transcend into the film itself. INSANITARIUM’s plot does seem rather tasty. Check it:
“Jesse Metcalfe plays a man who pretends to be crazy in order to save his sister (Sanchez) from being involuntarily hospitalized. Once inside the institute, the siblings discover that a doctor (Stormare) is using his patients like lab rats, forcing them to take a drug that turns them into flesh-eating psychopaths.”
No release date has been written on the prescription pad yet, but I’m betting that’s going to change soon! I’ll keep my eyes and ears open in the meantime.
