Inside the Jackass: Best and Last Premiere: The Whole Crew Reflects on an Era, and the Classic Cartoons That Inspired It

It’s seemingly the end of the road for the Jackass boys. With their grand finale, Jackass: Best and Last in theaters, Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, Wee-Man, Danger Ehren, Poopies and all of the rest of the gang are set to hang up their crutches, with perhaps advancing middle age making it unadvisable to keep pushing their bodies to the bring, as they have been for close to thirty years now.

Happily, to celebrate their last hurrah, the whole Jackass gang was there to chat with us at the Los Angeles premiere of Best and Last. Our man on the street in L.A, Ryan Culterera, is actually a massive fan of the franchise, and was unbelievably psyched to cover the red carpet, which included everything from Steve-O doing stunts, to an appearance by Larry, the android who is lucky enough to give Steve-O a prostate exam in the movie.

The whole wild affair is embedded at the top of this article.

The Surprising Inspirations Behind the Chaos

One thing worth noting is how Knoxville, in his interview with Ryan, was careful to list all of the things that inspired Jackass. Among them were classic silent film actors Harold LloydCharlie Chaplin, and most of all Buster Keaton, all of whom worked stunts into their comedy.

But there’s another influence.

“Tom & Jerry – please check out Tom & Jerry cartoons. That’s where I got most of my ideas from.” — Johnny Knoxville

Knoxville also imparted some wisdom to his younger self saying, “I wish I didn’t know what you’re about to learn.”

A Complete Family Reunion on the Red Carpet

Check out all the interviews, which include virtually all the classic cast members, as well as newer ones like Rachel Wolfson, and even Phil and Anne Margera, who, with their son Bam, were just as much a part of the franchise as anyone else.
