The title COWBOYS & ALIENS can be both a blessing and a curse. The title has led some audiences to believe the film is something of a comedy or maybe a little bit goofy (and, in fairness, it once was back when Robert Downey, Jr. was involved and Lonergan was more of a Tony Stark fast-talker). But Jon Favreau’s version is played completely straight as a western film that just happens to feature an alien invasion.
