Interview: John Carter Director Andrew Stanton!

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Here he is… the director of my two favorite Pixar films, WALL-E and FINDING NEMO, Andrew is now the second PIXAR director to transfer into live-action with JOHN CARTER while maintaining his voice in the process.

It’s become commonplace to report a directors enthusiasm for a project when you get the chance to discuss it with them but I have to hand it to Andrew’s particularly infectious enthusiasm. You’d think he’d never talked about Burrough’s world before. I often get a bit of that chill down the spine in the presence of my favorite filmmakers but it quickly went away the moment we sat down, he’s just a really, really cool guy. In addition to that he now earns the title as being the filmmaker to get the longest “development hell” project in Hollywood in the can. JOHN CARTER has its history dating back to Disney before SNOW WHITE and has passed through many filmmakers fingers, one of which even cameos in the film, which Andrew was more than happy to discuss in our conversation. Be sure to check out JOHN CARTER on March 9th. It’s certainly an event film.

“I’ve gotten a lot of questions about whether or not I feel pressure from the fans. What fans? There were barely any of them still around…”
