The good old days of Amblin movies like *batteries not included, Gremlins, and Cocoon may seem like they are behind us, but sometimes a fun reminder pops up to show the magic is still out there. On the heels of the series finale of Stranger Things, The Duffer Brothers have produced another series that blends the same nostalgic spirit of their 1980s-set series with a cast of acclaimed veteran performers.
The Boroughs is set at a retirement community in the Southwest that may not be what it seems. When residents begin experiencing strange phenomena, it is up to a group of friends to unite and discover what may be lurking under the surface. With a cast that includes Alfred Molina, Alfre Woodard, Bill Pullman, Geena Davis, and more, The Boroughs is a blast not just for older audiences but for everyone who enjoys action, mystery, and genre thrills.
If you have watched the series, you may have noticed a familiar face in the final episodes. Mary McDonnell, Oscar-nominated star of Dances With Wolves and featured in Donnie Darko, Battlestar Galactica, The Fall of the House of Usher, and soon the new Marvel Studios series VisionQuest, pops up in an uncredited but pivotal role. I spoke with her about the secret role and what it was like reuniting with frequent co-stars like Alfre Woodard and her Independence Day spouse, Bill Pullman. She also talked about why The Boroughs reminds her of her fan favorite movie, Sneakers. Check out the full interview in the embed above.
The Boroughs is now streaming on Netflix (read our review).
